Academy - Rio de Janeiro
May 12 - 14, 2022 / Escuta! - Listening that Matters brings together participating scholars, researchers and artists, to share knowledge and research activities, and to collectively engage questions of listening and sonic practice. Listening is captured here as a transdisciplinary subject, one that moves across the humanities and society, and which contributes to fostering interpersonal relations as well as meeting points across diverse communities. Listening is more than the hearing of audible signals; rather, listening supports a range of relevant processes and practices, including emotional growth, social recognition, attunement across human and more-than-human worlds, and the creation of pedagogical and artistic forms. How might we think further about listening as a discursive, critical field? What forms of sonic, acoustic practice can be developed by way of listening, bringing forward new imaginaries, narratives, forms of co-existence? Through individual and group reflection, creative performance and intervention, the event will map key perspectives, opening toward areas of future research and experience.
