Institution(ing)s
Institution(ing)s is a collaborative experiment in creating a new type of cultural institution without walls, institution-ings that are living organisms in constant mutability and (ex)change. Institution(ing)s aims to cut across silos, disciplines, and fields to support contextualised research, situated practices, and translocal knowledge production as shared resources for possible, fairer and more sustainable, futures.
Initially developed June 2023 – January 2024 (funded by the Nordic Culture Fund (Globus OpStart) involving shared reflections and discussions on the nature of institutions and possible future approaches. As a participating member, The Listening Biennial contributes through the holding of listening labs, considering in what ways listening contributes to the life of institutions; this includes, posing the questions: what is a listening institution? And how does listening feature in structures of governance?
Members of the project include: CECC / The Lisbon Consortium / Universidade Católica Portuguesa; CAM / Gulbenkian; Tensta Konsthall; MOCA NGO; The Listening Biennial; Jan van Eyck Academie; tranzit.ro; Museum of Impossible Forms. And associate partners: HANGAR and Galerias Municipais de Lisboa.
